Oilers acquire Filip Hallander from Penguins for Spencer Stastney
The Edmonton Oilers acquired forward Filip Hallander from the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenseman Spencer Stastney in a one-for-one trade announced October 7, 2026, in the Oilers’ official post on X.
Edmonton put Stastney on its opening-night roster but did not dress him for a game this season. The 26-year-old Hallander returns to the organization that drafted him, with 2 goals and 7 points in 18 NHL games for Pittsburgh since the start of 2021-22.
“TRADE π The #Oilers have acquired forward Filip Hallander from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenceman Spencer Stastney,” the Oilers said in a post on X.
Both teams announced the swap, and no draft picks or prospects were included.
Stastney never dressed in Edmonton
Stastney made the Oilers’ opening-night roster but did not play a game this season. Reportedly, last season he had one goal in 36 games with the Oilers, a minus-10 rating and 16:02 of average ice time per game.
Edmonton acquired him from the Nashville Predators last season for a 2027 third-round pick, reportedly the same day it brought goaltender Tristan Jarry over from Pittsburgh in a deal that also sent Brett Kulak to the Penguins. The Penguins acquired him to replace Brett Kulak, but he never cracked the lineup.
Hallander’s second Pittsburgh stint ends
Hallander has been traded three times in his career. The Penguins drafted him, sent him to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2020, and got him back a year later in the deal that sent Jared McCann to Toronto. His SHL production with TimrΓ₯ IK, reportedly 40 goals and 89 points in 102 games with a plus-24 rating, is his selling point.
He was reportedly limited by injuries last season, and the clubs did not announce contract details or salary retention in the trade. Pittsburgh is also without defenseman Ryan Graves, currently the only injury on its blue line.
