The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to a five-year contract extension with forward Oliver Moore that carries a $4.25 million cap hit and a total value of $21.25 million, terms first posted on X by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman on September 24, 2026.
The deal does not begin until the 2027-28 season. Moore, 21, plays out 2026-27 on the final year of his entry-level contract, then moves onto the new deal, which runs through 2031-32 and expires with him as a restricted free agent. The extension was signed a year before that RFA window opened, locking in the 19th overall pick of the 2023 NHL Draft at the kind of early, below-market rate teams prefer to get done while Chicago still has a handful of other players due to become restricted free agents at the end of 2026-27.
Friedman wrote that the Blackhawks “are extending Oliver Moore at 5 x $4.25M.”
The salary structure is front-loaded rather than flat: $5.25 million in year one, $4.25 million in year two, $4 million in years three and four and $3.75 million in year five, per PuckPedia’s year-by-year breakdown. The cap hit stays at $4.25 million across all five seasons, so the year-one salary should not be confused with the cap number.
Moore is coming off his first full NHL season, in which he recorded five goals and 19 points in 51 games in 2025-26. That year ended March 8, when a lower-body injury suffered against Dallas ended his season, and Chicago went 6-10-4 afterward. He previously had a nine-game NHL stint in 2024-25, with outlets differing on whether it produced four or nine assists.
The Blackhawks have not announced the deal themselves, so figures could shift slightly when the contract is officially filed.
